Multilingual, ADA-Compliant Wayfinding System for CMC
(Typography I Class)

Project Overview

The Spring Valley campus needs a new signage system that is ADA
accessible, multilingual, on-brand, and repeatable as a design guide
for other campuses and future needs.
The Graphic Design students spent a semester developing the
signage system and guidelines using Spring Valley as the pilot
project for the program.

 Scope Check

  • A full set of visual designs was presented for the Spring Valley campus that fulfil needs for: ADA guidelines, brand, and multilingual equity.

  • A full set of design guidelines was delivered for signage systems on other campuses, including templates for designers to use.

  • The team will continue conducting design research on best practices for implementing accessibility features, with a focus on integrating Braille into signage. This research aims to ensure the final designs are inclusive, effective, and compliant with accessibility standards.

  • For parts of the project that were outside their areas of expertise, the team proposed recommendations and alternatives for next steps.

Phase adjustments

The team proactively adjusted the design phases to focus less on the split between templates and marquee signage, and instead developed a reusable guideline to accommodate a variety of signage needs.

The team iterated on the designs until all signage categories and individual signs were consistent.
